Questions about dental payer contacts
What is a dental payer ID?
A payer ID is the code your practice management software uses to route an electronic claim or eligibility check to the right insurance company through your clearinghouse. It is required when you set up a new insurance plan in Dentrix, Eaglesoft or Open Dental, and a wrong or outdated ID gets the claim rejected. Some payers use different IDs for different plan types, so check the guide for the plan on the patient’s ID card.
Which phone number should a dental office call?
Call the provider or dentist line, not the member services number, for eligibility, benefits and claim status. If the patient’s ID card lists a different provider number, use the number on the card: many employer plans route calls to a dedicated team.
Which Delta Dental company handles my patient’s plan?
Delta Dental is 39 separate member companies. The claim goes to the member company that insures the patient, which is not always the Delta Dental in your state. Check the patient’s ID card, or use Delta Dental’s national claims lookup tool, before you submit.
How current is this directory?
