Princess Dental Staffing is a well-known dental job board and temp marketplace, priced as a monthly subscription. Offices usually look for alternatives for one of two reasons: they want to stop paying a subscription in months they don't need a temp, or they want someone else to employ, pay and insure the hygienist. This guide compares six Princess Dental Staffing alternatives on what each one actually publishes.

A note on who wrote this: Teero publishes this guide and we've listed ourselves first. Every competitor figure below comes from that company's own website, checked in September 2026. Where a company doesn't publish something, we say so rather than guess.

How Princess Dental Staffing works

Princess charges a flat monthly subscription instead of a fee per shift. The Temps Only plan is $139 a month for unlimited temp requests. All Access is $259 a month and adds unlimited job posts and resume downloads for permanent hiring. Each additional office costs extra. There's a 14-day free trial, no hiring or finder's fee when you hire someone, and you can cancel anytime.

The key difference from most alternatives is employment. Princess says it provides a platform to help employers and candidates connect, and that it does not employ candidates. Hygienists create profiles and set their own rates, and your office hires them directly. That means your office handles the hygienist's pay, tax classification, workers' compensation and liability for each shift.

What Princess does well

  • Predictable cost for heavy users. Unlimited temp requests for one monthly price.

  • No hiring fees. Hire a candidate permanently and you pay nothing extra.

  • A job board as well as temps. All Access adds job posts, resume search and distribution of your openings to other job sites.

  • Every role. Hygienists, assistants, front desk and dentists.

Why offices look for Princess alternatives

  • You pay in quiet months too. A subscription costs the same whether you book ten temps or none.

  • Your office is the employer. Pay, payroll taxes, worker classification and liability for each temp sit with you.

  • More work for the front desk. Offices typically review profiles, message candidates and agree rates themselves.

  • Rates are set by the hygienist. Candidates set their own rates on Princess, so booking a temp can mean back-and-forth on pay before the shift is confirmed.

Subscription or pay per shift: which costs less?

It depends on how often you need a temp. Take an 8-hour hygienist shift at $57 an hour, close to the average rate on Teero. The hygienist earns $456, and a 12% service fee is about $55. At that rate, Princess's $139 Temps Only plan costs less in platform fees once you book about three hygienist shifts a month.

The fee isn't the only cost, though. On a W-2 platform, the platform is the employer: employer payroll costs are billed with the shift, and payroll, workers' compensation and liability are handled for you. When you hire through a job board, those costs and responsibilities don't disappear, they move to your office. So the fair comparison is a subscription plus your own time and employer obligations, against a per-shift fee that includes them being handled.

Rough rule of thumb: if you book temps every week and already run payroll for temps, a subscription can be the cheaper option. If you need a temp a few times a month, or would rather not employ temps yourself, pay-per-shift usually wins.

The 6 best Princess Dental Staffing alternatives

1. Teero

Teero is the largest W-2 employer of dental hygienists in the U.S., and it staffs hygienists only. There's no subscription: you pay a 12% service fee only after a hygienist works a shift, plus W-2 employer payroll costs that vary by state. Every hygienist is a Teero employee, so payroll, workers' compensation and liability are handled by Teero, not your office. You set the rate, Teero matches a vetted hygienist, and counteroffers aren't allowed.

Like Princess, Teero charges nothing when you hire a hygienist permanently. Cancellation is fee-free up to 24 hours before the shift, and support is 24/7 by phone, email or text. The Teero app is rated 4.9 on the App Store from more than 3,100 ratings.

Best for: offices that want hygienist coverage handled end to end and prefer paying per worked shift over a subscription. See the full Princess Dental Staffing vs Teero comparison.

2. Kwikly

Kwikly employs its professionals as W-2 employees, with no subscription or minimum. It publishes a 15% service fee per hygienist shift plus W-2 employment costs, and $60 per assistant or front-desk shift. Kwikly charges a fee to hire one of its professionals permanently; the amount isn't published.

Best for: offices that want W-2 staffing across hygienists, assistants and front desk. More in our Kwikly alternatives guide.

3. GoTu

GoTu charges 22.5% of the professional's shift rate for hygienist shifts, with no subscription. Shifts are contractor shifts by default; in some states you can choose employee shifts, which add 20% of the professional's pay. GoTu handles payouts either way and covers assistants and front desk too.

Best for: offices that want a large national marketplace and are comfortable with contractor shifts. More in GoTu vs Teero.

4. onDiem

onDiem's professionals are W-2 onDiem employees. ADA members get a discounted flat 25% service fee on all shifts and a $25 rebate on each of the first 20 shifts. The non-member rate isn't published.

Best for: ADA-member offices that want W-2 staffing. More in onDiem vs Teero.

5. Toothio

Toothio is the closest alternative to Princess for offices that also hire permanently. You set the hourly rate for temp coverage, there's no subscription or monthly fee, and it advertises no hiring fee to convert a temp to a permanent hire, plus an AI recruiter for permanent roles. Its service fee isn't published.

Best for: offices that want temps and permanent hiring in one place without a subscription. More in Toothio vs Teero.

6. Cloud Dentistry

Cloud Dentistry is free to join and covers temp shifts and permanent hiring, with float pools for DSOs. It doesn't publish office pricing; you schedule a walkthrough to get a quote.

Best for: DSOs and groups that want internal float pools. More in Cloud Dentistry vs Teero.

How to choose

  1. Count your temp shifts. A few a month favours pay-per-shift; several a week can favour a subscription.

  2. Decide who should be the employer. If you'd rather not handle payroll, classification and workers' compensation for temps, choose a W-2 platform. Our guide to W-2 vs 1099 in dental staffing covers the risks.

  3. Check the permanent-hire terms. Princess, Teero and Toothio advertise no fee for permanent hires; others charge one.

  4. Test local supply. Post a shift and see how fast it's claimed. Our service area pages show where Teero has hygienists.

Princess Dental Staffing alternatives FAQ

What are the best alternatives to Princess Dental Staffing?

The main alternatives are Teero, Kwikly, GoTu, onDiem, Toothio and Cloud Dentistry. Teero, Kwikly and onDiem employ hygienists as W-2 employees, so the platform rather than your office is the employer. Toothio is closest to Princess for combined temp and permanent hiring.

How much does Princess Dental Staffing cost?

Princess publishes two monthly plans: $139 for Temps Only and $259 for All Access, which adds job posts and resume downloads. Additional offices cost extra. There's a 14-day free trial, no hiring fees, and you can cancel anytime.

Does Princess Dental Staffing employ the temps?

No. Princess says it provides a platform to connect employers and candidates and does not employ candidates. Your office hires the professional directly and is responsible for pay, classification and liability.

Is there a dental staffing option without a monthly subscription?

Yes. Teero, Kwikly, GoTu, onDiem and Toothio all advertise no subscription. Teero charges a 12% service fee only after a hygienist works a shift, plus W-2 employer payroll costs.

Is a subscription cheaper than paying per shift?

It can be if you book temps often. At a typical $57 hourly rate, Princess's $139 plan costs less in platform fees than a 12% per-shift fee once you book about three 8-hour hygienist shifts a month. That comparison leaves out the payroll, workers' compensation and liability your office takes on when it hires temps directly.
