Most vendors will quote you a per-verification price. That number is rarely what you end up paying, because almost every published price sits on top of a monthly minimum, a setup fee, or a software subscription you have to carry whether you use it or not.

Here is what the companies that publish their rates actually charge, taken from their own pricing pages in September 2026.

What that looks like on a real schedule

Take a practice running 40 full breakdowns a week, so roughly 170 a month, with eligibility checked on everyone else.

On Teero that is $850, and the eligibility checks cost nothing. On Dental Claim Support’s published rates it is $1,402, plus a $399 one-time setup. On Wisdom’s it is $99 plus $8.95 per breakdown, so $1,620. On Verrific’s published per-ticket rate it is $1,691, before the software subscription. eAssist moves onto its $840 monthly tier at this volume, with per-verification rates applying above the first 100.

Across a year that is a gap of roughly $6,600 to $10,100 against the three providers that publish a per-breakdown rate. At this volume the monthly minimums stop mattering much and the per-breakdown rate does all the work, because you are paying it 170 times a month. Minimums matter most to a smaller practice. Teero has one too, an $800 monthly minimum, which means Teero comes out cheaper from roughly 20 breakdowns a week upward, and below that the per-unit vendors cost less.

The costs that do not show up in the quote

Five things reliably change the real number, and they are worth asking about by name:

  • Expedite fees. Rush requests carry a surcharge on most published price lists: Dental Claim Support charges $12.50 for a full breakdown inside four business hours against $8.25 standard, Verrific adds $2.95, Wisdom adds $2. On Teero a rush breakdown costs the same as any other.

  • Failed and unusable checks. Verrific charges $2.95 when information is incomplete or the policy is not an active PPO. Wisdom charges $1.95 for a failed eligibility check. Ask whether you pay for a verification that comes back empty.

  • Who does the data entry. eAssist prices done-for-you and do-it-yourself separately, and the do-it-yourself tiers are cheaper because your team keys the results into the practice management software. Teero writes results straight into your PMS, and it is not a separate line.

  • Custom breakdowns. A breakdown built around your own code list is often a separate, higher tier: Dental Claim Support publishes $12.75 for one, against $8.25 for a standard breakdown.

  • The floor. A setup fee, a monthly minimum or a software subscription means a slow month costs the same as a busy one.

How Teero prices verification

Eligibility checks are always free, and a comprehensive benefits breakdown is $5: coverage, limitations, frequencies and maximums, written into your practice management software, ready to treatment-plan and bill against. There is an $800 monthly minimum, the onboarding fee varies by practice, and there is no contract. Most offices are live within two weeks of signing up.

When automation cannot get an answer, our specialists in Austin, TX call the payer and deliver the completed breakdown. You are only flagged when something genuinely needs you. Everything before the patient arrives and after the claim goes out is ours; while the patient is in the office, your team runs the show, including claim submission.

Some offices use us just for verification, some just for posting and aging, and many for both. Start where it hurts.

Common questions

How much does dental insurance verification cost per patient?

Among vendors that publish rates, a full benefits breakdown runs from $5 to $9.95 per patient and an eligibility check from free to $3.95, with rush and custom breakdowns priced higher again. Most vendors also charge a monthly minimum or a software subscription on top, so the per-patient figure alone understates the real cost. Teero charges $5 per breakdown with free eligibility checks and an $800 monthly minimum.

Is it cheaper to verify insurance in house?

It depends on how much of a salaried person’s week it consumes. At 40 verifications a week it is a standing part of someone’s job rather than a task that fits around the schedule. Outsourcing is cheaper than that for most practices; it is rarely cheaper than a front desk with genuine spare capacity.

What is the difference between an eligibility check and a benefits breakdown?

An eligibility check confirms the policy is active and the patient is covered. A benefits breakdown is the detail you need to treatment-plan and bill: coverage by category, limitations, frequencies, waiting periods and remaining maximum. Most vendors price them separately, and the breakdown is the expensive one.

Do you pay for a verification that fails?

On some published price lists, yes. Verrific charges $2.95 for a ticket with incomplete information or a policy that is not an active PPO, and Wisdom charges $1.95 for a failed eligibility check. It is worth asking before you sign.
